The Leadership Center
Curriculum
Leaders come in many forms. Our program develops Multidisciplinary Changemakers— through academics, service learning, and hands-on projects across four areas designed to meet Honduras where it is.
2 year Program
The academic curriculum of Leadership Mission International is a two-year program focused on English immersion, Leadership, Community Development, and Business entrepreneurship. The school is in session year-round with 10-week quarters and a 2-3 week vacation between each quarter for students to return home, visit their families, and spend time in their communities.
Upon graduation & receiving their certificate, LMI graduates are paired with an internship with one of our partners across Honduras. Through these internships, LMI graduates exercise what they’ve learned & form networks that lead to full time roles. 87% of our alumni are fully employed or in a higher education program.
-
Through classroom instruction and an immersive English environment, students learn to speak, write, and express themselves confidently in English. This boosts their job opportunities in Honduras and in the remote job market.
-
Not every community has job opportunities, so our students learn to create them. Through business classes in budgeting, math, competitive analysis, and entrepreneurship strategy, our students learn what it takes to launch a successful business.
-
Agriculture represents a large portion of the Honduran economy, especially in rural areas. At the same time, climate change threatens the food security of many rural families. Our students learn regenerative, low cost, farming techniques that they can replicate in their communities.
-
Leadership is woven into everything students do here. Alongside that lived experience, students take dedicated coursework in ethics and leadership — wrestling with the kinds of difficult decisions that real change requires.
-
LMI students are trained to give back — and given the tools to do it well. Through classes and hands-on projects, students learn Asset-Based Community Development: how to work alongside community stakeholders, build on local strengths, and lead change that's rooted in the people it serves.
Alumnae Support: Investing Beyond the Classroom
Microloans
Every LMI graduate leaves with a business plan and the potential to build something real. Through zero-interest microloans, LMI co-invests in our alumnae's microenterprises, giving them the capital to launch and grow businesses that benefit their families and communities.
Community Development Grants
LMI graduates are trained to see what their communities need and build a plan to meet it. After graduation, alumnae can submit community development proposals to LMI — and we co-invest alongside them to bring those projects to life.
University Scholarships
LMI prepares graduates academically and financially for higher education. We provide partial university sponsorships so alumnae can continue their studies — and nearly one third already have, pursuing degrees in education, law, engineering, and business.
Through LMI’s graduate programs, LMI’s mission ripples across communities as thousands of people see women’s leadership in action.
LMI graduates are at the forefront of rural leadership- creating jobs, rejuvenating health & education infrastructure, and achieving roles that have never been occupied by rural women before.
Prospective Students
Each spring, prospective students and a member of their family are invited to campus for a formal interview. The young women spend the weekend becoming familiar with life on campus, getting to know students and staff, and attending a class. Once interviews are completed, a new cohort of 30-35 students is selected to begin studies in July.
Leadership Mission International is certified to provide a nationally recognized and accredited English, leadership, and community development certificate to our graduates.
